چکیده

ABSTRACT This paper describes how a model-based, feedforward control scheme can improve control performance over traditional PID and detect faults in the controlled process. The scheme uses static simulation models of the system under control to generate feedforward control action, which supplements a conventional PID feedback loop. The feedforward action reduces the effect of plant non-linearity on control performance and provides more consistent disturbance rejection as operating conditions change. In addition to generating feedforward control action, the models act as a reference of correct operation. Faults that occur in the system under control cause the PID loop to provide a greater than normal control action to compensate for fault-induced discrepancies between the feedforward models and the controlled process. By monitoring the level of feedback compensation, faults can be detected in the controlled process. The paper presents results from testing the controller with a simulated dual-duct air-handling unit. We also discuss recent experiences of implementing the control scheme in a real building using the BACnet communication protocol.

A Controller for Hvac Systems with Fault Detection Capabilities Based on Simulation Models

This paper describes a control scheme with fault detection capabilities suitable for application to HVAC systems. The scheme uses static simulation models of the system under control to generate feedforward control action, which acts to supplement a conventional PI(D) feedback loop. The feedforward action reduces the effect of plant non-linearity on control performance and provides more consist...

Application of Modeling and Simulation in Fault Detection and Diagnosis of Hvac Systems

Failures can lead to a series of problems in the complex heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems in buildings. Fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) is an important technology to solve these problems. Models can represent the behaviors of the HVAC systems, and FDD can be realized with models. Using the model as intermediary, a link between system simulation and FDD can be built. ...

Demo Abstract – BuildingSherlock: Fault Management Framework for HVAC Systems

HVAC systems constitute ∼ 40% of energy in commercial buildings, and faults in HVAC account for 5% to 20% of its energy consumption. Typically, HVAC in modern buildings are managed using Building Managing Systems (BMS), and fault detection is one of the essential services provided by BMS to keep HVAC operational. The current techniques used for fault detection fail to detect large number of eff...
